Police appeal for witnesses following fatal road traffic collision on the Ashford Road, near Canterbury

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that happened on Wednesday 27 May 2009 on the Ashford Road at Thanington Without near Canterbury.

Police were called shortly before 10.30pm to reports that a blue Maestro City van had collided head on with a white Daf HGV lorry. The Maestro van had been travelling from Canterbury towards Chartham and appears to have crossed the double white lines into the path of the oncoming lorry.

The driver of the Maestro van, a 33 year old local woman was pronounced dead at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The driver of the lorry, a 27 year old man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening chest injuries.

The Ashford Road was shut in both directions between Strangers Lane and the Milton roundabout to enable officers to investigate the collision. The road was re-opened again just before 4.30am on Thursday 28 May 2009.
