Sat Nav theft posterAppeal to sat nav owners

Police are appealing to owners of satellite navigation systems to take security measures and not make it easy for thieves.
Three thefts of systems were reported over the weekend in the Whitstable area. A Tom Tom system was taken from a car in Acton Road between 5am and 7.30am last Friday (27 March). On Friday night (27 March) a system was taken from a car parked in a private car park in Belmont Road and on Saturday night a system was taken from a car in Douglas Road. Last weekend a system was taken from a car in Saddleton Road.
Det Sgt Neil Buchanan said: “Satellite navigation systems should always be removed from a car. Leaving a system in full view or evidence that one is in use makes it very easy for a thief.”
He urged that car owners do the following:
Remove all valuables including sat nav systems when leaving your vehicle, even if you will only be away for a few minutes.
Clean the suction marks from the windscreen if you have a portable sat nav.
Don’t hide valuables in your vehicle - the boot or glove compartment are the first places a thief will look.
Has someone tried to sell you a second-hand sat nav system in unusual circumstances? If so, contact 01227 762055  and report what has happened. You can also call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
You can also visit the Kent Police website www.kent.police.uk for more crime prevention information and details of your local police station.
